Karr, Alfred Jr. "Al" Bay City, Michigan Mr. Karr passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at The Carriage House of Bay City at the age of 87 years. He was born on December 31, 1925 to the late Alfred and Emma (Foulman) Karr in Bay City and has resided here all of his life. Upon graduation from Bay City Central High School in 1944, Al was drafted into the United States Army. He completed basic training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. He served in the 3rd Army, 80th Division, 1st Battalion of Company B. Al fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg and was wounded on February 10, after crossing the Our River into the Siegfried Line in Germany. He spent three months at the Barle-Duc Hospital in France and returned to the states on the hospital ship Frances E. Slanger. Al received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and many other ribbons. Al worked for The Dow Chemical Company as an electrician for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, DAV, Knights of Columbus #2740, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Holy Trinity Catholic Church since 1947. He is survived by his step daughters and their families; Julie and Matt Feinauer, sons; Nick and Brian of Bay City, Mary Jerome, daughters; Abbey and Macie of Mt. Pleasant, sister-in-law; Geri Westover of Bay City and brother-in-law; Jack Dielkey of Las Vegas. On November 14, 2003 he married the former Jeanette (Spagnuolo) Sprywa and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2013. He was also preceded in death by one sister; Marguerite Morris, one sister-in-law; Lillian Dielkey, one brother-in-law; Don Westover, one nephew; Walter Paine and longtime friend; Sally Miller. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will be celebrated Monday, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm followed by Military Honors at 2:30 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Mr. Karr will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. and until the time of the Mass. Members of the K of C #4102 will meet at the church for the Bible Presentation at 10:00 a.m. There will be no visitation at the Gephart Funeral home. Memorial cards for Holy Trinity Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society will be available.
