Daniel E. Horn Bay City, Michigan Mr. Horn passed away on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at McLaren Regional Medical Center after lingering illnesses, he was 84. He was born on June 20, 1927 to the late Daniel and Caroline Horn of Pinconning, MI. He married Donna J. Ross on February 16, 1952, and she survives him along with their three daughters, Denise (Pete) Narbut of Laguna, New Mexico, Debra Schultz and her fiancé Terry Edwards of Bay City and Danette Breaux of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Zachary Daniel Landry of San Antonio, Texas; also surviving him are two sisters, Doris (Vince) Yaklin and Betty Lane; special niece and nephew Jonni Lou Pool and her husband David Taylor, and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Daniel was also preceded in death by five sisters, Inez (Chuck) Wilson, Marie (Harry) Bennett, Frieda Horn, Dorothy Horn and Ruth Pool. Daniel spent the early years of his life on the baseball field while growing up in Pinconning, graduated from Pinconning High School in 1945. Shortly, thereafter Daniel served in the U.S. Army in Germany where he was a part of the Armed Forces World Series winning team. When returning to the States, Daniel was scouted by the Detroit Tigers and the Brooklyn Dodgers, and signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers where he continued his life's passion to play ball. He played for the Dodgers minor league team from 1947-1949, as a Pitcher. His baseball career was cut short due to an arm injury. He worked as the Assistant Manager of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 10 years; He retired in 1993 from Newcor, Inc. and then worked part time at Future Technologies ("FTI"), which he enjoyed very much. Additionally, he has been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 50 years; was also a member of VFW Post 3753 in Pinconning; Wenona Lodge #256 F.&A.M., and the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 9:00pm. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Monday May 21, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Horn will lie instate at the church from 10:00am until time of service. Co-Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Schramm and Rev. Isaac Chung. Graveside interment will take place at 2:30pm Monday at Pinconning Twp. Cemetery followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. The Masonic Lodge of Sorrow will take place on Sunday at 7:30pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
