Don passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at New Hope Bay Assisted Living with his family by his side. The son of the late David and Ella Bender was born November 20, 1935 in Bay City, Michigan. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Don retired from Dow Chemical Company as a Mechanical Draftsman. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
Left behind to cherish his memories is his wife of 50 years the former Elaine G. Nelson whom he married November 1, 1968; his son, Scott Bender; his daughter, Katherine Bender; his grandchildren, Kristina, J.D. and Dayle; two great grandchildren, Scott and Anthony; his brothers, Richard "Dick" (Dorothy) Bender and Gerald Bender. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Barber.
Funeral and Committal will take place Friday, December 7, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Matt Hall with private inurnment in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. to receive family and friends. Don will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Faith Lutheran Church.
