Dr. Thomas R. Janowicz

Tom passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Bay City on April 24, 1937 to the late Eugene and Mary (Mika) Janowicz. Tom served his country in the Dental Corp. of the United States Army in Fort Lewis Washington. He then was active in the Army Reserve for two years. Tom was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan Dental School and received the U of M School of Dentistry Emeritus Award. He also attended Bay City Junior College and St. Stanislaus High School. Tom retired in 2000 after 39 years of practicing dentistry in Bay City. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, lifetime member of the U of M Alumni Club, the League of Catholic Men and Women, St. Catherine of Siena Altar Society and the Bay Valley Golf Club.
Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Betty); children, Dr. Timothy and wife Deanna Janowicz, Dr. Michael and wife Kristen Janowicz, Judith and husband Steve Brady, Nancy and husband Brian McGregor, Susan and husband Doug Zuchnik and Mark Janowicz; grandchildren, Elise (Jon) Knicely, Erica and Nicholas Janowicz, Tommy, Lauren, Lucas and Natalie Janowicz, Matthew, Elizabeth and Sarah Brady, Colin and William McGregor, Grant and Nolan Zuchnik; great grandson, Bennett Thomas Knicely; brother, Gene (Mary) Janowicz; sisters, Joan Spyhalski and Janice Janowicz; sister-in-law, Patti (Rick) Janowicz-Havercamp and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Leonard and brother-in-law, Norm Spyhalski.
Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish with military honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. John S. Sarge with private entombment in St. Patrick's Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Vigil for the deceased will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Dr. Janowicz will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers may wish to consider donations to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission or St. Catherine of Siena Parish.
