Edward J. Schwartz

Edward Joseph 'Chink' Schwartz passed away Sunday August 8, 2010 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 91. The son of the late John & Anna Schwartz, he was born May 6, 1919 in Bay City. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel Marie (Huber) on February 20, 2009 after 62 years of marriage. Besides his wife, he was most proud of his service to his country in WWII. Edward was an Airborne Paratrooper and one of the first troops to drop into Normandy. The recipient of two Purple Hearts, he received several wounds but returned to his troop per his request. Edward kept in contact with some of them through the years. After returning from the service, he began working at Dow Chemical Co. as a welder and he retired in 1974. Through the years Edward enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and most of all golf. He still golfed 18 holes at age 91. Edward valued his friendship with his neighbors, Fred & Lois Grew who were there for him always. He leaves a sister, Adeline Franceschina and 19 nieces & nephews. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. The funeral service will take place at 8:00pm on Wednesday August 11, 2010 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Jerry Hegenauer. Military Honors will be conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council and entombment will be in Floral Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay County Veterans Council.
