Gertrude L. Wing

Mrs. Gertrude L. Wing, of Bay City, age 90, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 2, 2014, with family by her side, at McLaren Bay Region Hospital. The daughter of the late Eric & Sara (Hughes) Reymore was born on August 15, 1923 in Beaverton.  Gertrude was a graduate of Bay City Central High School where she was a journalist for the school newspaper and played the clarinet in the Marching Band. She attended Bay City Junior College where she was a member of the tennis team.   On November 20, 1943 she married her love, Gordon N. Wing. They shared a full life, using their time, talents, and treasures in taking care of their families, and being involved in the church. They were a lot of fun.  For almost 50 years they played bridge, sailed, gardened, and were a joy to watch on the dance floor. Later they traveled the states in their Winnebago, were square dance "angels" of the Silver Valley Square Dancing Club, and made new friends wherever they went.  Sadly, Gordon preceded her in death on August 17, 1993.  Gertrude was a member of Grace Church, the former First Methodist Church, and Thoburn Methodist Church.  She volunteered at the Bay City State Park Museum and the Bay Medical Care Facility. Gertrude was very busy, being a wife, and mother of their six children, as well as a caretaker for their aging parents. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, historian, and an expert at crossword puzzles.  Even after macular degeneration took her eyesight, she continued to knit her "Gerti (dish) Rags" every day and would give them as gifts wherever she went. Gertrude would knit 100's of them every year, doing the most with what she had.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Carol (Robert) Goff of Traverse City, Judith Suh of Rockford, IL, David (Patricia) Wing of Reno, NV, Jerry (Joan) Wing of Bay City, Bob Wing of San Diego, CA, and Pegi (George) Lamoureux of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer (Alfred) Barbagallo, Matthew (Jennifer) Bourdo, Amy (Vasco) Bonini, Wendy (Adam) Schaub, Leslie (Dan) Palmer, Bryan (Kate) Suh, Steven (Amy) Suh, Christopher Wing & Derek Walker, Carrie (Dave) Gorajek, Kevin (Ashley) Wing, Isa Sinnott, Stacey (Jim) Beuster, Allison (fiancée Logan) Larson, Connor Larson, Ryan Lamoureux, and Chase Lamoureux; great-grandchildren, Alex, Leo, Carson, Natalie, Stewart, Simon, Scarlett, Luke, Ethan, Aidan, Parker, Leo, Drew, Dylan, Brady, Alexander, Lauren, and Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Jim) Haven; her aunt & best friend, Elva Wahlstrom; and many nieces & nephews.  Gertrude was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dudley, Von (Barb) Reymore; and her sister, Muriel Garrow.

The Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Grace Church, 4267 Two Mile Rd.  Officiating will be Rev. Leonard A. Clevenger.  Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, where Mrs. Wing will lie instate, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in support of Drew Gorajek or to Grace Church. www.gephartfuneralhome.com
