Mrs. Slezak passed away Friday morning, February 25, 2011 at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 90. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She always had a big smile and warm hug for everyone. Helen was born June 10, 1920 in Bay City and has resided in this area all of her life. She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church and its Altar Society, League of Catholic Women and Men, Legion of Mary, the K of C Ladies Auxiliary #2740. Helen was formerly employed at the Bay City Chevrolet, The Bay City Times and with her husband, operated the Country Tavern in Essexville for many years. She was an active volunteer in our community and spent many days volunteering at the Hair Salon at Bay Medical Care Facility. Helen enjoyed sewing, bingo, arts and crafts, playing cards, traveling and shopping. Helen is survived by three children and their spouses; Cindy (Ron) Erndt of Essexville, Michael "Sam" (Donna) Slezak of Denver, CO and Lou Ann Spicuzza of Beaverton, OR, two grandchildren; Dr. Stacy Erndt of Lansing and Travis Erndt of St. Louis, one sister; Evelyn Piotrowski, one sister-in-law; Dorothy Wachowski and several nieces and nephews. On November 28, 1946 she married Marion R. Slezak and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Michael and Martha (Zielinski) Wachowski, three sisters; Delphine, Victoria and Alice and seven brothers; Corey, Ed, Leo, Gene, John, Paul and Walter. The Slezak family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff at Bay Medical Care Facility 1 West for the kind and compassionate care they extended to their mother over the many years during the time she spent with them. The Funeral Liturgy and the Rite of Committal will take place Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Essexville. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. George J. Serour with private interment in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Vigil for the deceased will take place Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Slezak will be taken to the church on Monday, April 4, 2011 to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of the service. If you are planning an expression of sympathy the family asks that you consider a memorial contribution to the Activity Department at Bay Medical Care Facility.
