Mr. John G. Cambron, of Novi, formerly of Bay City, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Age 94 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Cambron (Joseph), a son Paul Cambron (Debra Kennedy), a daughter Nina Cambron (Bill Brancheau), 4 grandchildren: Kara (Jason) Hart, Stacy (Jason) Denham, Tia (Brian) Fletcher-Krawczyk, Max (Erin) Fletcher & 4 great grandchildren: Taylor & Ava Hart and Madalyn & Samantha Denham.
John was born July 6, 1921 in Belgium and moved to the United States in 1944 at the age of 18. Upon his arrival, he joined the US Navy. While attending the US Naval Academy in Chicago, he met his future bride. He served in WWII then relocated to Bay City and married in 1947. During his lifetime, he started numerous Tool & Die companies in Bay City. In the 1960's he established tool and die and machinist apprenticeship programs in partnership with the U. S. Department of Labor. These were among the first programs of this type in the area and they continue to this day as part of his legacy. Hundreds of journeymen have graduated from this program. Cambron Engineering on Wilder Road is still in existence and now employee owned. After retiring in 1979, he and Mary traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe and China. They moved to the Fox Run Retirement Community in Novi in 2009.
It was Mr. Cambron's desire for cremation to take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Temple of Grace United Methodist Church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
