Judith Alyda Ruttan, age 81, passed away, surrounded by her daughters on Sunday, November 3, 2019. Judy, one of 9 children, was born October 21, 1938 in Bay City Michigan to Otto Bryce and Helena Moldenhauer. After the early passing of Otto Bryce, Judy was loved and raised by Ira Milliman and her mother, Helena.
Judy was predeceased by Roberta Bryce , Herbert (Bud) Bryce, Dewey Bryce, Phyllis Bryce (Lovett), James Milliman, and Gail Milliman. Judy is survived by Donna Bryce (Kutzke), Dennis Milliman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
On July 7, 1957, Judy married Frederick William Ruttan of Algonac Michigan. Together, they had two daughters, Sandra and Beverlee. In 1989 Fred and Judy retired in Manistique, Michigan where they built their home in the woods. They enjoyed traveling and a relaxing life style until Fred's passing in 1998.
Judy was a long-time employee of the former People's National Bank where she retired from in 1980. Judy had many special interests including quilting, photography, traveling, and volunteering. She served on the Foster Care Review Board of Schoolcraft County, as well as on the hospital auxiliary. She was a Master Gardener doing volunteer work with the DNR and Habitat for Humanity. Judy was an active member of Valley Herb Society and also volunteered for Chippewa Nature Center, American Red Cross/Michigan Blood, Midland Center for the Arts, and The ROCK Center for Youth Development.
Judy was active in her church and with her church friends both at Good Shepherd in Munising and St. John's Lutheran in Midland, Michigan. Judy held office for LWML. She enjoyed singing in the choir, making banners, helping with special events plus working everywhere from the kitchen to the church office.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Kay and Christian Robert Johnson and Beverlee Marie and Kevin Alan Wenzel; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Frederick Jay Ruttan (children: Frederick and Charles Archer) Lance Eugene Roberts (children: Hunter, Gabriel, Hailey, Abbie, Gwenevive), Benjamen Roberts (wife Katelin, children: Rowen, Jackson, Benjamen, Evelyn), Thomas Lee Hunter, and Nichole Marie Hunter.
A celebration of life was held on October 6, 2019 where Judy was able to visit with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Judy's honor to The ROCK Center for Youth Development.
One final comment, Judy loved to dance.
