Matthew passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland at the age of 93 years. He was born in Bay City on February 19, 1928, to the late Matthew and Margaret (Irving) Kerr. He proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Airforce. He married the former Margaret Trelewski in Bay City on June 21, 1952, who preceded him in death on October 7, 2011, after 59 years of marriage. He then married Janice Hill on December 22, 2013, and she survives him. He worked and retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1988 after 28 years. He was a member of the EAA Chapter 159 and the Valley Aero Club. He built and flew 2 biplanes which he hangered at James Clements Airport. He also assisted in building other planes. He was also a member of the Bay City Rifle Club and enjoyed shooting and gun collecting.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Shari (Randy) Wegener, Mark (Terri) Kerr, Amy (Harrison) Curtis, Jean (Jay) Weaver, Kim (Chris) Mitchell, Ellen (Randy) Birdsell and Chris (Tim) Burnside; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. In addition to his wife, Margaret and his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Kerr-Laskey; son, Jimmy Hill; granddaughter, Lorie Wegener.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Atchinson with interment following in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
