Nelly passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Close to Home Assisted Living. The daughter of the late Arnold and Ella (Lang) Rechsteiner was born December 12, 1927 in Kawkawlin, Michigan. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, knitting and sewing. She was a dedicated Tigers Fan.
Left to cherish her memories are three children, Donald (Angie) Scherzer, Benjamin (Lynette) Scherzer and Bonnie Keen; five grandchildren, Jesse (Melissa) Scherzer, Jacob (Chewei) Scherzer, Briar Keen, Megan Keen and Autumn Scherzer; her brothers and sisters, Arnold (Maxine) Rechsteiner, John Rechsteiner, Joseph (Kathleen) Rechsteiner, Louie Rechsteiner, Irene Rechsteiner, James (Karen) Rechsteiner, Daniel (Carol) Rechsteiner; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose Rechsteiner, Rosanne Rechsteiner, Janice Rechsteiner and Larry Grove. In addition to her parents, Nelly was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Scherzer, and her sisters and brothers, Lilly Morgan, Nancy Grove, LeRoy, William, Frank, Harry and Benjamin Rechsteiner.
A special Thank you to the staff of Close to Home and Southern Care Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral and Committal Services will take place on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. William H. Allwardt with private interment in Fremont Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday to receive family and friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Nelly will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
