Mr. Hartley passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side at the age of 83 years. Robert was born on April 13, 1936 in Kawkawlin, Michigan to the late Peter and Lorena (Wetters) Hartley. He graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1955. Robert married Eleanor (Johnson) Hartley August 3, 1963 and they were married for 56 years. Robert was actively involved in ministries through Trinity Episcopal Church which included: usher, Food of Faith, St. Paul Soup Kitchen; Bay City Fireworks Festival, Bay Arts, March of Dimes and a member of the local carpenters union.
Robert is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hartley; two sons, David (Cindy) Hartley of Roswell, GA and Thomas (Marva) Hartley of Bentley, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Mitchell Hartley, Alex Hartley, Emily Hartley, Paige Hartley, Klarissa Hartley, Dale Henderson and Andrew Hartley; two brothers, Glen Hartley and Ronald Hartley and one sister, Irene (Hartley) Geno. In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by his four brothers, Miles Hartley, Ray Hartley, Gilbert Hartley and Richard Hartley and two sisters, Mildred (Hartley) Roth and Betty (Hartley) Ott.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Nancy Mayhew with burial and committal following in Elm Lawn Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home to receive family and friends on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Robert will be taken to church Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
