Robert S. Jones

Jones, Robert S. of Bay City, Michigan passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon May 30, 2012 at Brian's House surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness at the age of 76. The son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Brand) Avery was born June 18, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the National Rifle Association and retired from the Teamsters Local # 486 as a diesel mechanic. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and was actively involved in competition shooting. On December 1, 1962 he married the former Gail A. Schuman at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and she survives his passing along with three children and their spouses; Steven and Deb Jones of Bay City, Cheryl and James Varnum of Midland and Michael Jones of Kawkawlin, six grandchildren; Jennifer and Jeremy Coberley, Brad and Samantha Jones, Matthew Varnum, Christina Varnum, Kaycee Jones and Haley Jones, six great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren two sisters and two brothers-in-law; Donna and James Merrill of Bay City and Shirley and Larry Kutsch of Traverse City, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Joseph and Judith Schuman of Bay City and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will take place Saturday June 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church 3033 Wilder Road Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Rev. Daniel C. Meckes with entombment following in Oakwood Mausoleum in Saginaw, Michigan. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Friday from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mr. Jones will be taken to the church on Saturday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services.
