Robert Monaghan formerly of Bay City, died in Jackson, Michigan at age 91. Robert was born March 31, 1922 to James and Louise Monaghan. He married his beloved wife, Rosemary Monaghan (McDonald family of Saginaw) on April 15, 1950 at St Mary's of Saginaw, Michigan. Robert was a loving husband, a devoted father to his four sons and an embracing, joyful grandfather. His entire life was centered on his family. He was a modest, humble man with an attitude of one blessed with tremendous good fortune. He will be remembered for his infectious and endearing humor and wit. No one could doubt his undying love of his wife which he honored in so many deeds and thoughts until his very last breath. He enjoyed camping and backpacking with his sons in northern Michigan, The Smokey Mountains and elsewhere. He was an avid fan of football and basketball which he enjoyed with his family. He maintained throughout his life a youthful glee of celebrating Christmas with all its traditions. He was an active member of the Catholic Church. Robert had a deep commitment to his community which was demonstrated in the countless hours working and championing various charitable efforts. His surviving sons are proud of his legacy of fidelity, devotion, honor, citizenship and above all, a sense of humor when facing life's many challenges. He retired from the University of Michigan, where he worked in heating and cooling maintenance, in 1985 after 24 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren, traveling, and summering in East Tawas City Park. He along with his wife traveled extensively, eventually settling in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was active in both the Lions club and the Knights of Columbus. He will be profoundly missed by his four sons, Michael (Ruth), Shaun (Stephanie), James (Joline), and Brian, and his 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, James Monaghan, and his two sisters Clarine (Monaghan) Burdis and Laura Mae (Monaghan) Williams. He will be interred at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Bay City.
