Robert A. Oswald, of Bay City, passed away Wednesday morning December 28, 2011 at his residence, age 87. The son of the late Henry & Anna (Greibe) Oswald, he was born August 8, 1924 in Bay City. Robert served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He was employed at Dow Chemical Co. in Midland for 36 years. Robert was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was an avid golfer, golfing five days a week with his friends at Spring Valley. He also enjoyed working in his big garden that he shared with many. Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ermal (Walker) Oswald; their son, Richard H. Oswald of Mackey, Idaho; grandson, Nathan Oswald of Irving, Texas; granddaughter, Renae (Jason) Meriwether of Traverse City; great-grandchildren, Darby Oswald, Jeremiah, Jessica and Jaren Meriwether; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Oswald; and his 10 brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank everyone that have been so helpful the last two years. Special thanks to Bob Krzyminski, Barry & Sharlean VanWert, Margaret & Alan Brown and McLaren Hospice. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Monday January 2, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Isaac Chung with interment following in Heavenly Rest Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00pm. Mr. Oswald will lie instate at the church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
