Mr. Scott S. Benson, of Bay City, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, April 27, 2017 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland, age 58. The son of the late Sylvester and Orila (Neveau) Benson, he was born on September 13, 1958 in Bay City. Scott was raised in Fairgrove and graduated from Akron Fairgrove High School. Growing up Scott and his sister Jeriann loved spending summers at the cabin with Gram. He worked for many years as a self-employed machinist. Scott was a true outdoorsman and was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed boating and bowling.
Scott is survived by his life partner of 27 years, Lisa Graves, and her children, Jeremy Graves and Janelle (Gary) Gottleber. Scott was "Papi" to Natalie, Gary, Jr. and Brayden. He is also survived by his sister, Jeriann (James) Patterson of Quanicassee; two nephews, Timothy (Danielle) Patterson and Kyle (Alyson) Patterson; his great nieces and nephew, Molly, Amelia, Violet, Olivia and Rowan; his special friends, Richard Sylvester and Dennis Boggs; and his special companions, his dogs, Pootie and Hank.
Scott would say "If the sun was shining and the fish were biting, you knew where Scott and Lisa were at." His favorite saying was "Fish On!"
A Memorial Service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Mrs. Joyce Comtois. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family.
