Shirley Mae (Young) Solomon

Shirley Mae (Young) Solomon, age 85, was called to her eternal home Sunday, March 18, 2018. The daughter of the late Stanley and Mae Young, Shirley was born November 2, 1932. On December 30, 1954 Shirley married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Melvin P. Solomon. Blessed with 63 years of love and companionship, the devotion they shared is a true testament of marriage, and is a legacy their grandchildren will forever admire and cherish.

Mel and Shirley were proud parents of their beloved daughter, Sheri Lynn Bublitz. Very sadly, Sheri passed away in 1987, however, thanks be to God, we can imagine the joyful, glorious reunion that took place early Sunday morning when mother and daughter were reunited in Paradise.

In addition to her devoted husband Mel, Shirley was deeply loved and will forever be mourned by her dedicated biological grandson David Bublitz, her son-in-law Kevin Bublitz, his wife Kimberly, and their children who were blessed to call her Grandma: Daniel, Janelle, and Julia Bublitz. Also surviving are her in-laws, Jack (Carol) Solomon, and Bonnie (Bill) Flathau, numerous nieces and nephews, and her lifelong girlfriend Joannie Whitfield. Along with her daughter Sheri, and her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her in-laws Jimmy (Merrily) Solomon, and Glen (Nancy) Solomon.

In her early years, Shirley worked as an office assistant for a few local businesses, including General Motors. Later in life Shirley found her calling and took much joy in serving others as a caregiver for the elderly. A gentle, soft-spoken beauty, Shirley was always pleasant, humble, and kind. She loved her poodles, her family, and her Lord.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at the Bay Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care that Shirley received while in your facility. We will forever be grateful for your kindness, compassion, friendship, and the extraordinary care you gave to Shirley. Thank you!

Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be the Rev. Andreas Teich. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial cards for family wishes will be available at the funeral home.
