Mrs. Kernstock passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010, at her home with her family by her side. Violet was born January 22, 1922, in Auburn, Michigan to the late Julius and Augusta (Stark) Brandt. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Bay City in 1936 and became an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust, the L.W.M.L, the Ladies Quilting Club and served on various committees, church functions and events. She was formerly employed at the Bay City Chevrolet throughout WW II until her marriage to Roland on September 1, 1945. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Violet worked side by side with Roland on their farm, and raising their family. Violet is survived by four children and their spouses: Kenneth (Kay) Kernstock of Sterling, Kathleen Kernstock of Deerlodge, Tennessee, Cynthia (Timothy) Beckers, of Omer, and Kristine (Kris) Selle of Edwardsburg; seven grandchildren: Linda Atkinson, Sandra Minaee, Robert Kernstock Rachel Sanchez, Nathan Beckers, Rebecca Beckers, and Jason Selle; her great grandchildren: Charlotte, Kyle and Joe Atkinson, Anthony and MyKayla Sanchez and Johnny Roland Minaee; one foster sister, Meta DeWyse of East Tawas; one nephew, Gary (Janet) Brandt; and many foster nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by Roland, her loving husband of 64 years in May 2010; a daughter, Carrie Lyn in February 1991; her parents, Julius and Augusta Brandt; three brothers: Edward, August and Fredrick Brandt; two sisters: Gertrude Brandt and Erma Brandt; her foster parents: Gust and Julia Schimelfenig; as well as, six foster brothers and five foster sisters. Funeral services will take place Thursday, December 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Rev. Paul D. Theiss with interment following in the Church Cemetery . Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Mrs. Kernstock will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie in state from 1:00 p.m. and until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Violet's honor may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church , St. Paul Lutheran School, or the American Cancer Society will be available at the funeral home.
