Sheppard, Wayne M. Bay City, Michigan Mr. Sheppard passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Bay Shores Nursing Home. Age 91 years. He was born September 2, 1921 in Kawkawlin, Michigan and has resided in Bay County all of his life. Wayne was a member of First United Methodist Church, he proudly served his country with the United States Army during WW II in the Pacific Campaign. Wayne was formerly employed with the New York Central Railroad and Fletcher Oil Company. He enjoyed playing cards, served as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, was always willing to give a helping hand to his family and friends. Most of all he had a great love for his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. On May 29, 1948 he married his wife of sixty four years the former Virginia R. Johannes and she preceded him in death along with his parents; Claude L. and Rosalind M. (Staudacher) Sheppard and one sister; Betty Faye Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard is survived by one daughter and son-in-law; Jacqueline and Alan Ruegsegger of Bay City, two sons and one daughter-in-law; Charles W. Sheppard of Bay City and Richard C. and Sally Sheppard of Frankenmuth, six grandchildren; Mark and Jennifer Ruegsegger , Matt and Keri Ruegsegger, Sara and Josh Werner, Ashley Sheppard, Adam and Nikki Sheppard and Alexandria Sheppard, three step grandchildren; Shannon, Brent and Megan Warren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; Jacqueline L. Hudson of Bay City and Barbara A. and Robert Carlson of Lake View, OR, Lois LaBrosse Bay City and his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his in-laws; John and Mary (Engelman) Johannes and two brothers-in-laws; Edwin and Orion Johannes. Funeral Services will take place Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church 300 N. Wenona St. Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Rev. Debbie Thomas with interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. The Family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive family and friends on Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Sheppard will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services. For those planning an expression of sympathy the family ask that you consider a memorial to First United Methodist Church, Bay County Veterans Council or the donor's favorite charity.
