Adolph 'Al' J. Herek

Herek, Adolph 'Al' J., of Bay City, Michigan, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Wednesday October 20, 2010, age 68. The son of the late Adolph W. & Phyllis (Witucki) Herek, he was born September 26, 1942 in Bay City. Al attended St. Joseph School and Bay City Central High School and served with the US Air Force. He was a real estate appraiser and retired from Baker & Elbers in Saginaw. Al was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and was active with it's Men's Club and the Horseshoe League. He was also a member of the Bay City Lions Club. Al enjoyed boating, camping and fishing and especially taking walks with his family. On October 7, 1967 Al married the former Veronica 'Ronnie' S. Keller and she survives him along with three daughters, Jennifer & Derek Don of Bay City, Laura Shelagowski and special friend Andy Cleland of Holt and Leslie & Chris Fall of Vassar; four grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Don and Kyle and Tyler Fall; and four sisters-in-law, Judy MacArthur, Sally Case, Diane & Dan Dwyer and Marilyn & Bill Gonder. Besides his parents, Al was also preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly Herek in 1975. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00am on Tuesday October 26, 2010 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 2872 N. Euclid. Rev. Fr. Gerald E. Balwinski and Sr. Virginia Scally SNDdeN will officiate over the funeral rites with Rite of Committal following at Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 & 7:00 to 9:00pm. The Lions Club Service of Remembrance will begin at 7:45pm on Monday followed by the Vigil for the Deceased at 8:00pm. Mr. Herek will lie instate at the church on Tuesday from 9:00am until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family.
