Alan R. Hill

Mr. Alan R. Hill, of Bay City, passed away early Sunday morning, January 3, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness at the age of 69. The son of the late Robert and Monica (O'Neil) Hill, he was born on August 25, 1946 in Bay City. Alan graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1965. At an early age he took up playing guitar and piano, and found that not only did he have a love of music but music had a love of him. As a young solo artist Alan performed many nights at the roller rink next to the State Park. He then went on to play in bands, two of which became very well known during the late 60's, The Counterpoints and The Epics. Both bands were winners of the popular Battle of the Bands. Alan worked for several years at Herter Music Center, where he was a fixture helping local artists' young and old. A longtime member of the NRA, he was an avid shooter and enjoyed hunting. Alan liked to do carpentry work and enjoyed nothing more than sitting around the campfire with family, friends and of course his guitar. He loved his family dearly and because everyone was his friend, he never had an enemy.
On October 24, 1986 Alan married Cinda M. (Mammel) and she survives his passing along with their children, Lief & Tammy Hill, Aaron Hill & Tina Tyler, Monica Hill, Robert Hill & Samantha Knepp, Jay & Jacquie Gallant, Nicole Hill and Grant & Kayla Gallant; grandchildren, Molly and Ben Hill, Jenna Hill, Dalton, Dylan, Spencer and Evie Gallant, Ashlyn and Cole Hill and Leela and Lincoln Gallant; his brother and sister-in-law, Carl & Leslie Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donn & Debbra Mammel, Joe Mammel & Michele Compeau, John Mammel, Fred & Sarah Mammel, Mary & Joe Stilwell and Erin & Kirk Dawson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Besides his parents, Alan was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hill; and his sister, Judy Sullivan.
It was Alan's desire for cremation to take place. His family will greet friends during a celebration of Alan's life from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc.
