Kolka, Alvin C. Bay City, Michigan Mr. Kolka passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at Bay Shores Nursing Home. Age 82 years. The son of the late Joseph and Cleo (Purvis) Kolka was born August 22, 1928 in Grayling, MI. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Mr. Kolka retired from Carter Lumber Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0165 in Midland, MI, former member of Eagles Aries #1010 in Bay City and the Foresters Local #1258 in Saginaw, MI. Mr. Kolka enjoyed hunting, baking, being with his grandchildren, and working church dinners and bingos. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He is survived by his wife of sixty years the former Lillian M. Barnella whom he married September 23, 1950.Also surviving are his children; Deborah (Thomas) Nagel of Midland, MI, Gregory (Mari) Kolka of Bay City, MI and Heidi (Rick) Albretsen of Munger, MI, his grandchildren; Kerri (Mark) Kroll, Jeremy (Carrie) Austin, Eric Austin, Sean Austin, Kristi Kolka, Heather Kolka, Hunter Kolka, Stacy Webb and Kyle Albretsen, Ted (Jennifer) Nagel and Jeremy Nagel, eighteen great grandchildren, two brothers; Jim (Joyce) Kolka and Jack (Janet) Kolka, his sisters; Maxine (Robert) Pappendick, Shirley Devine, Dorothy (Don) Denton and Delores (Gary) Leslie, his sister-in-law; Mary Margaret Kolka,his aunt; Eileen Pond. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother; Pat Kolka, two sistersand one brother-in-law; Lorraine Higgins, Jackie and Gerald Worden. The Funeral Liturgy and the Rite of Committal will be celebrated Friday, October 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. George J. Serour and Sister Virginia Scally SNDdeN will officiate over the funeral rites followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veteran's Council. Private interment take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling, MI. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Kolka will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial Cards for St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church or Golden Horizons Senior Center or the Alzheimers Foundation will be available at the funeral home.
