Anita C. McMurray

Anita C. McMurray passed away peacefully on July 8, 2017 after a long illness. Anita was born on January 2, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Arthur and Cora (Lary) Groke. It was Anita's great pride to have served her community as a teacher for Pinconning schools for over 38 years. She influenced the lives of hundreds of students. Anita's first teaching post was at a one room schoolhouse located in her hometown of Linwood, Michigan where she taught kindergarten through eighth grade. She also served the United States Army as a teacher posted on the American base in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. While at Goose Bay she taught second and third grade for the children of servicemen stationed there and also met her future husband William (Mac). William and Anita were married for 55 years before his death in 2014. Anita spent her final year in the care of Linwood Residence where she received kind, respectful and courteous care by a loving staff that became our friends. Anita will be remembered for her strength of character, her wry wit, her love for her family, most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her love of animals. Anita is survived by her daughters, Robin Devereaux-Nelson (James), Connie (Tom) Armitage; her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley Zeilinger, Ally, Andrew, and Hanna Zeilinger, Heidi Ahler and Matthew Klender, Leah and Adam Perreault, Madison, Jennifer and Joshua Armitage, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. McMurray and her brother, James Groke. Funeral and Committal services will take place Thursday July 13, 2017 at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Don Killey officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Private interment will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery.
