Bernard F. Shotwell "Bernie" Bay City, Michigan Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully late Sunday morning September 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 83 years. The son of the late Frank Alfred and Marie Lucy(Germain) Shotwell was born September 4, 1932 in Pontiac, Michigan and has resided in Bay City most of his life. Mr. Shotwell was a member of All Saints Parish - St. James Church, American Legion Post 18 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Bernie retired from Saginaw Steering Geer as a technician, he was an avid football fan, enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan. On August 1, 1953 he married his wife of sixty two years the former Rose Marie Moreau and she is left behind to cherish his memories. Also surviving are ten children and their spouses; Joseph and Kim Shotwell, Catherine and Mike Flynn, Michael and Debbie Shotwell, Donna and Wai Lam, Diane and Kenneth Holka, Mary O'Shea and her fiancé Jon Morse, Alfred and Brenda Shotwell, Ann and Pat McNeal, Mark and Danielle Shotwell and Gwen and Mike Bond, twenty two grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother-in-law; Mary Lou and Dan Buckley, Rita Pietrzak, one sister-in-law; Ginna Shotwell and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Frank and Marie he was preceded in death by one son; John Shotwell, two grandson; Devin Shotwell and Austin Holka, one sister and one brother-in-law; Irene and Louie Petrusha and two brother and sister-in-law; Floyd and Loretta Shotwell and Frank Shotwell. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Parish- St. James Church 710 Columbus Ave. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr.Jose M. Cabrere. A private Rite of Committal and Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan under the Auspices of the United States Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home and Cremation Services to receive visitors on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Shotwell will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, Salvation Army or Langley Hall.
