Woods, Bernard R. "Bernie" Bay City, Michigan Our loving husband, father and papa passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region. Age 76 years. The son of the late Earl and Marie (Besaw) Woods was born on September 12, 1936 in Bay City and has resided here all of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church for fifty three years. Bernie began his career as a firefighter with the Bay City Fire Department and retired in 1990 as captain and was very proud of his thirty years of service to our community. He had a great love for the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, and spending winters in Florida with his wife and many of his friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty five years the former Mary Lou Savage, his children; Cindy (Keith) Balhorn, Eileen (Thomas) Krueger, Connie (Timothy) Fleming, Jeffrey (Loretta) Woods and Paul (Colleen) Woods, his grandchildren; Megan (Mike) Major, Melissa (Joshua) Appold, Emily Krueger, Lindsey and Joshua Fleming, Courtney and Kelsey Woods, step grandchildren; Ashley, Kendra and Aleisha Balhorn, Selena (Jeremy) Stevenson, and Donnie Basawa, great grandchildren, Timothy and Gregory, step great grandchildren; Keegan, Kayla, Brennen, Bryson and Page, one sister; Mary Jean McInerney, one brother and three sisters-in-law; Michael and Helen Woods, Norene and Katie Woods, his brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law; Dory Bliven, Carol (Jerry) Mader and Shirley (Ed) Nawrock, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Gerald and Earl Woods, sister-in-law Joyce VanWert; brother-in-laws; Edward VanWert, Silas Bliven and Charlie McInerney. The Woods family would like to extend a special thank you to NICU staff an McLaren Bay Region for the great care given to Bernie. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. George J. Serour. At the request the family, cremation has taken place. The family will be present at the church on Friday to receive visitors from 9:30 a.m. Memorial cards for the Wishes of the Family will be available.
