Bernice Zuchnik from Bay City, Michigan passed away with family members by her side on Friday, October 19, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma. Bernice was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was born in Essexville, Michigan on January 8, 1931 to the late Evelyn (Neering) and Bernard Van Wert. She is survived by her five sons and daughters-in-law: Kevin and Jeanne of Naples, FL, Joseph and Ruthie of Blanchard, OK, Steven and Michele of West Chicago, IL, Louis and Lori of Norman, OK and, Douglas and Susan of Lake Zurich, IL; grandchildren and spouses: Patrick, Alicia and Dominic Mattachione, Lauren and Chad Wohlfert, Chelsea, Logan, Grant and Nolan; great granddaughter, Ellie Wohlfert; siblings and their spouses: Donna Kruchowski, Sharon and Ray Skrabut; sisters-in-law: Patricia Van Wert, Anne Van Wert, Lottie Fedak and Anna Bananszak; and, many other close family and friends. Bernice was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers: Victoria Salois, Evelyn Gies, Don Van Wert and Bernard Van Wert.
Bernice loved to dance and travel with late husband, Edward whom she married on November 6, 1954. She enjoyed spoiling family and friends with their favorite baked goods or meals and was known to bring those wonderful treats on long road trips or send a shipment of cookies to grandchildren. Bernice's faith was very important to her and she was also there for those in need. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Brookdale Senior Living Center and Good Sheppard Hospice in Oklahoma for the love and care they provided to mom and, the comfort they provided to the family.
Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Corpus Christi Parish with Rite of Committal following at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery, Linwood, MI. Friends may visit at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Zuchnik will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.
