Scherf, Betty Elaine of Bay City, MI . Mrs. Scherf passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Barton Woods in Freeland, MI. Age 87 years. The daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Graf) Kussro was born March 26, 1924 in Bay City and has resided here for many years and in Freeland, Holland and Suttons Bay. She was a member of St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church in Saginaw and a former member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Bay City. Betty retired from Dow Chemical Company Midland Division as a foreman, was an active leader in 4-H for many years, active in her Church and enjoyed their family farm and her horses. She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law; Judith and Paul Ursuy of Freeland and Sandra and Robert Laetz of Suttons Bay, MI, five grandchildren; Marie Ursuy, Michael Ursuy, Sarah (Jason) Couturier, Cathy (Osama) Qutah and Allison (Stephen) Roberts, seven great grandchildren; Brianna and Libby Couturier, Mazin and Nour Qutah, and Nicholas, Isaac and Phinneas Roberts, one sister and brother-in-law; Ruth and George Hughes, one brother and sister-in-law; Jack and Leigh Kussro and her nieces and nephews. On March 30, 1944 she married James F. Scherf and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1993. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Edward, Clarence and Frederick. Funeral and Committal Services will take place Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church. 602 Sidney St. Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Rev. Steven L. Korth with private interment in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mrs. Scherf will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services Memorial cards for the American Heart Association or St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church will be available.
