Calvin J. Appleby, of Bay City, passed away Sunday April 3, 2011 at Brian's House, age 63. The son of the late John & Thelma (Elliott) Appleby, he was born August 10, 1947 in Bay City. Calvin was retired from Saginaw Malleable Iron. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Calvin was an active member and volunteer of the Bay City Bowman Club, where he held many positions including Field Captain and was an instructor and mentor of the J.O.A.D. program. He was also a mentor with the Eagle Scouts. Calvin was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and golfing. Calvin is survived by his wife, June M. Appleby; a son, David (Cindy) Appleby of Bay City; a daughter, Denice (Monte) Owczarzak of Essexville; a step-daughter, Ann (Steve) Belknap of Richards, Texas; a step-son, Patrick McCarthy of Bay City; eight grandchildren, Shane, Nycole, Laykyn, Hayley, Montena, Sydney, Joshua and Caibry; a great-granddaughter, Alayshia; two brothers, John (Juanita) Appleby and Larry (Michelle) Appleby; and many nieces & nephews. A Memorial Liturgy will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday April 6, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm. Private inurnment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 & 7:00 to 9:00pm and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00am until time of service. The Vigil of the Deceased will take place at 8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bay City Bowman J.O.A.D. Program.
