Carl passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Bay City Comfort Care at the age of 89 years. He was born on August 19, 1929 in Bay City to the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Haywood) Cooper. He married the former Mary Jane Keschman in Bay City on August 17, 1957 and were married for 61 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII and the Korean War. Carl graduated in 1957 from Olivet College and went on to teach school in the Bay City school system for 30 years retiring in 1986. He also worked for the American Red Cross. Carl was a life member of the VFW, American Legion Post #18 and the Elks Club. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; sons, Karl P. (Tracy), Christopher S. (Stephanie) and Kevin J. (Tanja); grandchildren, Eva, Jacob, Peter, Jonah, Rachel, Sara, Adam, Haywood and Davy; sister, Joan Wendel; one niece and three nephews.
Funeral and Committal services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Gephart Funeral Home with military honors conducted under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. Officiating will be Mary Ann Helie with cremation to take place following the service. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
