Carl passed away Thursday morning, July 19, 2012 at the Caretel Inns of the Tri Cities at the age of 96 years. The son of the late Peter and Elsie (Kiesel) Gies was born November 14, 1915 in Bay City. Carl was a retired farmer and also retired from Kundinger Chevrolet. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening and sharing the vegetables he grew with others and deer hunting. Carl served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a member of the American Legion Post #239 in Crump, MI. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Carl Harrow of Flushing, MI; one sister-in-law; Irma Gies of Bay City, MI; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Gies and Fred Gies, two sisters, Edna Bornemann and Doris Bornemann. Carl's family would like to extend a Thank you to the staff of the Caretel Inns of the Tri Cities and Hospice Advantage for the kind and compassionate care he received during his time of need. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday July 21, 2012 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. the visitation will conclude with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Private burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial Cards for the American Legion Post #239 will be available at the funeral home.
