Niemi, Carl Elmer Essexville, Michigan Carl passed Monday, January 9, 2012 at his residence. Age 85 years. The son of the late David and Selma (Nystrom) Niemi was born August 29, 1926 in Spirit, WI. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and a former member and president of St. Matthews Church. Carl retired from Ironworkers Local # 25. He served with U.S. Navy during W.W. II and played on the Navy baseball team. Carl was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. He is survived by his wife the former Vera Wiskow whom he married March 6, 1948. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Edward (Nikki) Niemi, Bree and Brett Myers, Sam and Jill Niemi and Ann Marie Niemi, his great grandchildren; Tucker and Emmett Niemi, Cheyanne Myers, Mara and Lauren Niemi, two daughters-in-law; Sherri Neimi and Carol Niemi. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Southern Care Hospice for their care and compassion. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sons; Edward and Gordon Niemi and one grandson; Aaron Niemi. Funeral services will take place Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church 1705 Nebobish Ave. Essexville, MI 48732. Officiating will be Rev. Carl Trosien with Graveside Committal Services taking place at 1:45 p.m. at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Saginaw with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials for Pilgrim Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund will be available at the church.
