Carla Joyce Engelhardt passed away on Saturday February 23, 2013 at home. Carla was born on March 14, 1958 in Bay City, MI to Frederick R. "Sonny" and Leona L. Engelhardt. Carla worked in the family business, Engelhardt's Dairy while she completed her degree as a Registered Nurse. She held degrees from Delta College, SVSU and a Masters Degree from CMU. Carla also achieved many professional certifications. She worked for Saginaw General Hospital, Saginaw Career Complex and HealthPlus of Michigan. Carla is survived by her husband of 29 years Kenneth (Ken) Born. This past Christmas she shared with her family how blessed they were to have had such a wonderful marriage. She told her nieces and nephews, "He is the love of my life." Carla is also survived by her sisters, Linda Engelhardt (Tony Kocinski), Gloria Rose and her daughters, Angela and Olivia; brother, Frederick (Jay) Engelhardt and his sons, Wade and Garrett and their mother, Debbie Finkbiener; sister-in-laws, Barb Born, son, Mike (Elissa) Deming, Pat (William) LaForest, children, Chris and Lisa; and brother-in-law, Tim (Jill) Born. Carla had nine great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves special friends, Christine Hayward, Tim and Sue Wenglikowski and Mary Reed. Carla was predeceased by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Earl and Elaine Born; and beloved sister, Cynthia (Dinnie) Engelhardt. Carla had a wonderful sense of humor, loved her family, flowers, Moritz and Gusty, "The Beach House", and spirited debates on many topics including politics and healthcare. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm. Private inurnment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Engelhardt will lie instate at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Bay County.
