Carol passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born October 12, 1930 at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Everett Lee Harper and Voris Helen Harper Howes, step daughter of Percy Howes who have all passed before her.
She attended school at Carman Ainsworth in Flint, St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Michigan and graduated from Rose City High School in 1948. Carol studied Calligraphy at Delta College and several business courses, including the computer program at Northeastern in Midland.
Her work career included babysitting and waitressing while in high school, production work at the AC Spark Plug in Flint, window glazing at Howes Woodworking Shop in Rose City, sales clerk at Schumakers Stationers in Bay City, clerical work at the Michigan Employment Office in Bay City and Secretarial/Office Professional at The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, retiring after 18 years of service.
Carol was chosen Queen of Ogemaw Hills Ski Park in West Branch in 1950 of 23 contestants. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crossword puzzles and writing letters. She loved most kinds of music and dancing, her children, friends and of course her comical cat, Silky. She had an eternal place in her heart for Kiki and muffin who have passed.
Surviving are her four children, Dana Shane (Cathy) Odney, Michael Eric (and friend, Gwen Granger) Odney, Mark Howes (Gail) Odney and Carol’s daughter, Tracy Afton Carpenter; grandson, Nicholas John Carpenter; granddaughter, Morgan Lee Kozuch; many nieces and nephews; special niece, Peggy Lee as they celebrated many birthdays together, with lunches and trips with friend Joyce Stander of Sterling. In addition to her parents and step father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ella Wilson and brothers, Robert lee (Dorothy) Harper and James Allen (Monica) Harper.
In accordance with Carol’s wishes, she was cremated and no formal service are being held. Memorial contributions may be made to Amara Hospice, as they provided exceptional care throughout this difficult time.
