Carol Louise Lewis

Carol passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side on Monday, September 9, 2024 at the age of 88. She was born on September 6, 1936 to the late Lawrence and Elsie (Riegler) Chartier in Bay City, Michigan. She was a lifelong member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish formerly known as St. Vincent de Paul Church. She loved going up north to the shack and listening to the falls. Carol also enjoyed camping, traveling, going to the casino, playing cards with her family and getting together with her brothers and sisters to play poker. She loved sitting back and relaxing after her yardwork was done and appreciating the smell of freshly mowed grass. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her door was always open for them. She was a strong independent woman and a good listener.

Carol is survived by her children, Kimberly Freiberg, Gary (Amy) Lewis, Brad (Sally) Lewis and Marty (Lorie) Lewis; grandchildren, Angie (Eric) Gansser, Kent (Jodi) Wrzesinski, Tiffany (Bryan) DuRussel, Leslie Lewis, Brody Lewis, Bradley (Kendra) Lewis, Garrett (Elizabeth) Lewis, Kylie (Grant) Metcalf, Courtney (Greg) Gunther and Grant Lewis; great grandchildren, Grace, Kaiden, Brenner, Alayna, Reese, Troy and Vaeda; sister, Harriett Leonard; sister-in-law, Betty Purtell and brother-in-law, Lowell Provost. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary M. Lewis; grandson, Landen Lewis; granddaughter, Renate Lewis; twin sister, Carmen as well as sisters, Virginia, Maxine, Edna and Laura and brothers, Jim, Howard and Tom.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Jen and the staff from Heartland Hospice for her care and compassion that she has shown to the family throughout this difficult time.

Funeral service for Carol will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. James Bessert. The family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Gephart Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil service taking place at 6:00 p.m. The family will also be receiving visitors on Monday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
