Carolyn Ann (Hoyt) Harman, 89, of Bay City, MI, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born on December 10, 1929, in Belpre, Ohio, she was the oldest of six children of the late Claremont E. and Margaret Hawkins Hoyt. Carolyn graduated from Denison University in 1951 with a degree in Philosophy. She pursued a master's degree in education as well as earned her Registered Nurse degree. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Ohio and as a Registered Nurse at Bay Medical Center.
A life-long advocate of charitable causes, Carolyn was a community organizer for Juvenile Diabetes Foundation for many years as well as involved in her church communities (Broadway Baptist Church followed by New Hope Church). Carolyn and late husband Clair opened their home to numerous foreign exchange students to whom they became extended family. Carolyn enjoyed gardening and travel, especially when it entailed connecting with family and friends within the states or abroad.
Carolyn joins her predeceased husband William Clair Harman and is survived by her son William C. Harman, Jr., her daughter Andrea N. Harman and grandsons Joshua and Tristan, and her daughter Tanya (Harman) Chartier and husband Tim and grandchildren Noah and Mikayla. Carolyn also leaves behind her younger siblings Josephine "Jo" Bero, Margaret "Margi" Nasemann, and David "Dave" Hoyt as she joins predeceased siblings John Hoyt and Mary Griffes.
She enjoyed a full life and her absence will be felt deeply. Funeral and committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Gephart Funeral Home, 201 West Midland Street, Bay City, MI, 48706 officiated by Pastor Lee Austin. The family will receive visitors during a viewing prior to the service between 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held July 27, 2019 at Hope Renewed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Alzheimer's Association.
