Carolyn L. Van CiseBay City, Michigan
Carolyn Lynn Van Cise passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 31, 2014, attended by her husband Ken and Pastor Paul Theiss. She was born in Royal Oak on May 11, 1949, to the late Francis and Arthur Fruechtel.
As her license plate stated, Carolyn was a "Woman on a mission." She touched many lives, sharing her love of family, church, education and horses. In everything she did, Carolyn was a role model and mentor - through her passions, leadership, and volunteer work as well as in her encouragement and counseling of others. She was a Special Education Teacher for 30 years at Kolb Elementary, Handy High School and Central High School before "retiring." In retirement she worked as a Special Education Director for Bendle Schools before retiring again. Finally, she served as interim principal for St. Paul Lutheran School for two years. She retired for a third time in 2013. Horses, especially Dressage Equitation, were her lifelong passion. An accomplished rider, she trained horses, instructed riding, judged horse shows, and served in numerous roles, including President, with the Midwest Dressage Association for several years.
Carolyn was active in her church, serving in the Ladies Aid, Friendship Circle, playing in the handbell choir, and ushering. At home, Carolyn created a warm and welcoming setting that hosted numerous events, holidays, and gatherings of the extended family. She cherished her husband, children and grandchildren, spending as much time with them as she was able. She was, and always will be, "SUPER!"
Carolyn is survived by her husband Kenneth, her two children Edward (Amy) Van Cise of Houston, TX and Carrie (Tyler) Wilson of Carson City, MI, as well as four grandchildren, Hannah and Patrick Van Cise, Blake and Jackson Wilson.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust.
