LENTZ, CATHERINE E. "KATIE". (WALZ) Bay City, Michigan Catherine passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living at the age of 96. The daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Walz (Kernstock), she was born April 3, 1924 in Bay City. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deaconess. Catherine was a graduate of Central High School and attended Bay City Junior College. She retired from Dow Chemical Company, she also had worked at Consumers Power Company.
She is survived by two sons; Robert J. Lentz and his wife Anita Carpene of Newport, RI and Douglas R. Lentz and his wife; Tracee Behnke-Lentz of Tawas City, MI, her grandchildren; Sarah E. Rubelmann (Frederic Rubelmann III), Laura C. Lentz all of Wethersfield, CT, Paige E., Kalvin W. and SrA Gabriel H. Lentz all of Tawas City, MI, four great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law; Harold W Lentz of Ft. Wayne, IN, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Lentz, whom she married in 1953, a son Gregory H. Lentz, three sisters, Alvina Carlin, Eleanor Ensminger, Reah Walz, and brother, Roland Walz.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering at church, vacationing in northern Michigan, travelling, attending the Bay City Players productions, Bay City Community Band concerts, and Bay Optimist Travelogues. In her younger days, she played tennis, golfed, and skied.
At the request of Mrs. Lentz, a cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Pastor Brenna Overland. Visitation will take place at the church on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private inurnment will take in Floral Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Food Bank of Eastern Michigan or the Alzheimer's Association.
