Mr. Cavanaugh passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, December 5, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. Age 83 years. The son of the late Charles J. and Ruth (Gottschling) Cavanaugh Sr. was born April 8, 1929 in Bay City. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Mr. Cavanaugh retired from the City of Bay City Waste Water Treatment Plant. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed going to local taverns with his brother Dick to visit with friends, enjoyed watching T.V., he had a great sense of humor and was a very likeable person. He is survived by his wife the former Betty S. Doan whom he married April 30, 1949. Also surviving are his children; Bonnie (David) Bourdon, Richard A. (his special friend; Donna Culler) Cavanaugh, Kitty K. Cull, Jack (his special friend; Dianne Davidson) Cavanaugh all of Bay City, Mary (James) Mahoney of Illinois and Don (his fiancée Constance Tigner) Cavanaugh of Bay City, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, his brothers and sisters; Richard Cavanaugh, Terry Cavanaugh, Judy Wagner and Linda (Ted) Tober, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister; Marcia McPhee. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to his nurse, Linda Kiesel and Amy Urbaniak from Heartland Home Care for the kind and compassionate care our loved one received during his time of need. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will be celebrated Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with private inurnment in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends on Friday at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Cavanaugh will be taken to the church on Saturday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial Cards for Heartland Home Care will be available at the funeral home.
