Clare R. McLean Bay City, Michigan Clare R. McLean passed away peacefully Thursday evening, January 22, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Midland, Michigan with Jim and Shirley at his side. Age 100 years. The son of the late Laurence and Olga (Bernhardt) McLean was born June 15, 1914 in Harbor Beach, Michigan and had lived most of his adult life in Bay City, Michigan with his late wife Doris on Euclid Avenue in homes that he built there. Clare attended Bay City Central High School and Bay City Junior College, he was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church and retired from Consumers Energy as a gas service man. He had a great love for the outdoors, spent much of his time hunting, fishing, gardening and farming in his earlier years. Clare enjoyed making stained glass, building and repairing just about anything, loved a good game of golf and most of all he cherished the time he spent with his son Jim. Mr. Mclean is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Dr. James D. and Shirley McLean of Midland, one brother-in-law; Richard Schmidt of North Carolina, one very special nephew; Randy Schmidt and many other nieces and nephews. On August 8, 1937 he married his loving wife the former Doris Mae Schmidt and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2005. Funeral and Committal Services will take place Monday, January 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. William H. Allwardt with private interment in Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to Zion Lutheran Church or the McLean Nature Preserve.
