Colen James LaFave

Colen passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Saginaw St. Mary’s My Michigan Medical Center with Dr. Laura and Roger at his side at the age of 94. He was born to the late George and Amanda (LeVasseur) LaFave on January 24, 1930 in Fraser Township near Linwood, Michigan. He became a member of the Pinconning United Methodist Church after marrying his late wife of 69 years, Susan Schafer. He was a loyal University of Michigan Graduate and a diehard Wolverine fan. Subsequent to his marriage, Colen joined forces with his Father-in-Law, Russell J. Schafer, where they owned a GM Dealership in Pinconning Michigan. At Schafer Chevrolet, he faithfully served his community and business for more than 60 years. Without a doubt, Colen was one of the premier auto salesmen on the planet. As a people person who possessed personality plus, Colen cherished spending time with his family, friends and traveling worldwide. 

Colen is survived by his children, Dr. Laura LaFave, Roger LaFave, Russell LaFave; granddaughter, Lori (Ryan) Clarey and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan LaFave; grandson, Jarred LaFave; brothers, Oliver LeFave, Dolphis LaFave, and sister, Florence (LaFave) DuFort. 

11:00 a.m. Funeral Services for Colen will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Pinconning United Methodist Church. Interment and military honors will immediately follow at the Pinconning Township Cemetery. After the Burial Rights, the family invites everyone to join them for a luncheon at the Church. Viewing and visitation will occur on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Colen’s name to the Pinconning United Methodist Church.
