Darwin Delaney passed peacefully on Friday, September 8th, 2023, age 87, at Stratford Pines Assisted Living. He was born on December 26th 1935 and married his late wife, Tanya Y. Delaney on August 24th 1957. For almost 7 decades Darwin, alongside his beloved wife Tanya, built an exceptional Chihuahua bloodline under the Dartan prefix, a fusion of their names “Dar” and “Tan.” Darwin bred approximately 400 Champions, including many All-Breed Best In Show Winners, National Specialty Winners, and many of the breed’s winningest Chihuahuas on an international level. Remarkably, there are over 200 All-Breed Best In Show Winners out of a Dartan dog. Darwin’s legacy extends beyond his famed bloodline. He was cherished for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity. Darwin readily shared his knowledge, offered mentorship, and assisted newcomers entering the world of dogs. He exemplified the highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship, frequently offering words of encouragement and praise to his fellow breeders and exhibitors. He prioritized people and relationships, genuinely celebrating the successes of others. In 2020, the Chihuahua Club of America recognized his contributions with a Lifetime Membership and the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.
He leaves behind family and friends. He is survived by Tamra Delaney-Duso and her husband Steve Duso, Guy Delaney and his partner Joel Hyllested, grandchildren Steven Bechanko with his fiance Haley Charters, Jennifer Bechanko and her partner Mikey Blaszkowski as well as a great grandchild, Bella Bechanko. Darwin touched the lives of many. He was quick to smile, quick to lend a hand and advice. To say he will be missed is an understatement. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers and support. Darwin was so happy to have you all in his life, to share his passions and love. Thank you. Please keep his legacy going, please help those around you where you can. Please feed your passions and share them with your whole heart.
