David C. Pentkowski, born on December 22, 1946, in Bay City, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2025. He left behind a legacy shaped by his unwavering dedication to service and community.
David's educational journey began at St. Joseph High School in Bay City, where he proudly graduated with the Class of 1965. He furthered his studies at Central Michigan University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in 1970.
David worked industriously for many years as a Customer Service Representative for United Airlines, a role through which he connected with countless individuals, showcasing his commitment to providing excellent service. In 2002, he retired from United Airlines and soon after began working at Gephart Funeral Home, where he continued to serve others during some of their most difficult times.
Throughout his life, David was deeply involved in community activities and organizations. He was a proud member of the Bay City Elks Lodge #88 and held esteemed positions within the Knights of Columbus, being a 3rd Degree member of #4102 and a 4th Degree member of #491. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, as he served as a Lector at St. Catherine of Siena Parish and as a Eucharistic Minister, acting as a Commissioned Lay Presider in the absence of a priest/lector at Corpus Christi. These roles allowed him to share his faith and support his congregation wholeheartedly.
David is survived by his loving siblings: Margaret (William J.) Krischke of Warren, Michigan; Therese Sattler of Bay City, Michigan; sister-in-law, Kathy Warren of Midland, Michigan; James J. Pentkowski of Essexville, Michigan; brother-in-law, Lon Sheltrown of Bay City, Michigan; Christopher Pentkowski of Clermont, Florida; and Patricia (Donald) Sadler of Suwanee, Georgia and his cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles and Clara (Justa) Pentkowski; brother, Michael Pentkowski; sister, Elizabeth Sheltrown; sister-in-law, Kathleen Pentkowski; special cousin, Daniel Pentkowski and his nephew, Shane Sellergren. David's spirit, dedication, and love for family and community will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He leaves behind not just memories, but an example of kindness and service that will inspire future generations.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish with private entombment following at St. Stanislaus Mausoleum. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Gephart Funeral Home from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., the Vigil for the Deceased will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. David will be taken to the church to lie in state on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family or the Knights of Columbus 4120.
