David Bernard Szutkowski

Szutkowski, David B. Bay City, Michigan. David B. Szutkowski age 86, passed away peacefully January 21, 2025 at Sheffield Bay in Bay City, Michigan. The son of the late Bernard and Eleanor (Sieja) Szutkowski, was born on July 17, 1938 in Bay City. Dave attended T.L. Handy High School and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Army. He retired from General Motors Saginaw Grey Iron in 2005. Dave was a longtime member of St. Gabriel Parish in Auburn. An avid hunter for most of his life, Dave enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing, as well as, camping with family and friends. 

As a true singer at heart, Dave had a beautiful voice and enjoyed being a lifetime ‘barbershopper’ in both Saginaw and Great Lakes Barbershop Chorus. Dave also loved to play hockey. Anytime you talk to Dave, he would share a hockey story. He was quite a character and will be greatly missed. 

In 1967 Dave was united in marriage to the former Swannie A. Kennedy who passed away in 1996. Dave was later remarried in 2006 to Juanita Martek whose passing was in 2019. Dave is survived by daughter Kelly Reynolds; sister, MaryJo McCarty; brother, Frank (Pat) Szutkowski; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Masters; Brandy (Dylan) Shippey; Austin Hamme; Alle Hamme and boyfriend Miguel; great-granddaughter, Stevie Shippey; sister in-laws, Rosie Pittman, Bonnie Kennedy, Joyce Kennedy and many nieces and nephews. Stepchildren, Sister Maria Gemma Martek; Jody (Chad) Montana; step-grandchildren, Camden and Morgan. Dave was preceded in death by brother in-laws, Dermont (Marsha) Kennedy, Jack (Nell) Kennedy; Alan Kennedy; Kim Kennedy; and Don Pittman.

Dave's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Sheffield Bay & The Care Team Hospice for the excellent care he has received, and for the special care and comfort given to his family. 

The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. St. Gabriel Parish in Auburn, followed by military honors. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will be served following the funeral service. Entombment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to the donor’s favorite charity in Dave’s name.
