Debra Katherine May, our beautiful mother, grandmother and sister, passed away at home with the love of her family by her side on Monday, January 16, 2017, age 65. The daughter of the late Ernest F. and Dorothy K. (McLaren) May, Sr., she was born on December 10, 1951 in Bay City. Before her illness, Debra worked at the Speedway on Broadway Ave. and also the Dollar Tree. She was an avid Detroit Lions fan, enjoyed gardening, loved her pets, and above all cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Debra was a very caring and generous person, and that showed through her selfless gift 22 years ago when she donated one of her kidneys to her brother, Ernie.
Debra is survived by her four daughters, Amy Cobb, Jennifer (Christopher) LaBreck, Melissa (Don) Duchene and Beth (Dan Satryano) Shook; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother, Ernie (Patsy) May; her sister, Suzy May; her dog, Callie and her cat, Midnight; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Debra was also preceded in death by her former husband and longtime friend, Charlie Shook.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Compassus Hospice, especially Toni, everyone at the McLaren Infusion Clinic and Dr. Jonathan Abramson and his staff, for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to Debra.
