Donald James Nielson of Bay City went to be with his heavenly Father, October 22, 2017 at his home at the age of 72. The son of the late Augie and Anna (Browdowski) Nielson, Don was born September 20, 1945. Don married Michele Rose Burgeson September 25, 1971. They shared 46 years of marriage together. Don's greatest joy was serving the Lord. Don was the treasurer for the Community of Christ for many years in Bay City and was their beloved Pastor for the last ten years. Don was retired from General Motors Malleable Iron Plant where he formed lifelong friendships. Don was also a member of the Masons.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Shelly; his devoted sons, Ryan (Laura) Nielson and their angel sweet daughter, Gloria; Andy (Susan) Nielson and their daughter Katelyn who kept her Poppy going the last nine years on his path. Also surviving is his brother, Joseph (Cheri) Nielson of Massachusetts; his special brother, John (Cheryl) Williams and his special nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his brother Frank Nielson and sisters, Jayne "Toots" Gray and Diane Neitzel.
A Memorial Service will be held at Community of Christ 3301 E. Midland Road in Bay City on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with High Priest Gil Burgeson officiating. The family will be present at the church on Friday to receive family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ for their Food of Faith Programs.
