Doris Elaine Maxwell

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister went to be with her Lord Monday evening May 18, 2015 with family by her side. The daughter of the late Emil Frederick and Hulda Margaret Barbara (Lutz) Schmidt was born September 24, 1931 in Frankenlust Township. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust and active in Ladies Aid. On October 25, 1952, she married George Arthur Maxwell, Jr. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1983. Doris had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was happiest when they were together. Planting and caring for her flowers and summer vegetable garden gave her great pleasure, along with following all Detroit sports teams.
Left to cherish her memories are her children David (Nancy), Sharon, Sandra, Thomas (Jeanne Jones), Judith, Karen, Michael (Christine), Diane (Gordon) Johnstone and Joel (Laurie Jamieson); grandchildren Mark, Rachel, Kristina, Scott, Todd, Matthew, Katherine and Olivia; great grandchildren Brendon and Carson; brothers and sister Edward (Audrey) Schmidt, Arlene Kernstock and Wilmar (Elaine) Schmidt; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Marge Elliott, Debra Peck, Vera Maxwell and Jim Hitz; many nieces and nephews; very close friends Hilda Dijak, Marie Hendrick and Celia Williamson.
Funeral Services will take place Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen E. Schilke with graveside committal following in the church cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive family and friends on Wednesday, May 20 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at the church Friday from 12:00 o'clock noon until the time of services.
