Through faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, Doris Schmidt entered her eternal home in heaven on January 23, 2017, at the age of 90. The daughter of the late Albert and Martha (Beiser) Kloha was born September 5, 1926, in Kochville Township, MI. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Amelith where she was active in the Ladies' Aid, LWML and Church Choir. Doris was a member of the L.F.A. and enjoyed working in her flower gardens, putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading, and watching softball and the Detroit Tigers. She especially enjoyed crocheting, and over the years made afghans for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris also cherished any and all opportunities to be together with her family, including her children and their spouses Kay and Les Schwab, Joyce and Curt Adams, Bill and Brenda Schmidt, Phil and Barb Schmidt, as well as her twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Doris is survived by one sister, Ellen Hardy, one sister-in-law, Jan Kloha, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Wally" Schmidt, whom she married on May 24, 1947 and who passed away on December 15, 2015. Also preceding her in death were a sister Lorraine Kloha, a sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Bill Taylor, a brother-in-law Robert Hardy, a brother and sister-in-law Howard and Shirley Kloha a brother Elmer Kloha, and brother and sisters-in-law Otto and Elsie Engelhardt, Donna Kloha and Otto Rosin. The family will receive visitors at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, January 27, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral which will take place on Saturday, January 28, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Amelith. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen P. Starke, with internment following in the St. John Church Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to St. John Lutheran Church of Amelith.
