Dr. Edward Hugh Rodda

Rodda, Edward Hugh, M.D. Bay City, Michigan Dr. Edward Hugh Rodda passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at his home at the age of 88. The son of the late William and Cecelia (Huddleston) Rodda was born on January 12, 1925 in Detroit, Mich., and grew up in Ferndale, Mich. He entered the United States Army upon high school graduation where he served during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He then graduated from Albion College in 1949 before attending medical school at Wayne State University and graduating in 1952. "Doc" Rodda settled in Bay City in 1957, taking over an established practice. He was a general practitioner who also delivered babies from 1957 until the late 1980s. Doc was active in the Michigan Mental Health Association and was an avid golfer. He was a longtime member of the Bay City Country Club and the B.P.O.E. Lodge #88. Ed was preceded in death by his lovely wife Jean Crane Rodda whom he married on June 17, 1950. He is survived by six children; Nancy Rodda, Susan (Patrick) Walsh, Becky Rodda, Lynn (Russ) Schupmann, Edward (Tammy) Rodda Jr., and Michele (Jeff) Filary. Ed was the proud grandfather of nine: Nicholas (Amelia) Filary, Jennifer (Jon Loop) Filary, Eric and Melissa Schupmann, Sarah, Edward III and Molly Rodda, Ashley and Kara Walsh. He was blessed by three great grandchildren; Nick Jr., Sophia and Ziyah Filary. He was preceded in death by one brother; Robert Rodda and one nephew; Robert R. Rodda In accordance with Doc's wishes, cremation has taken place and he will be buried beside his wife in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. The family is planning a private memorial service.
