Mr. Cathcart passed away late Friday afternoon, April 24, 2015 peacefully with his family at his side. Age 78. The son of the late Arthur Harold and Eleanor Cathcart was born August 14, 1936. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. Mr. Cathcart retired from G.M. Powertrain Bay City Plant and a member of U.A.W. #362. He enjoyed hunting, motorcycles, camping, restoring old vehicles and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Army transportation corps as an H 21 double Rotor Helicopter Mechanic. Left behind to cherish his memory is the love of his life and wife the former Patricia P. Peplinski whom he married August 30, 1958, his children; Linda Cathcart, Jeanne Cathcart, Edward Cathcart Jr. and Steven (Christine) Cathcart, grandchildren; Bradley Vanpelt, Thomas Vanpelt, Phillip Mercer, Trishia Watson, Samantha Cathcart and Jacob Cathcart, his great grandchildren; Destiny, Dylan, Dominic and Cody Vanpelt, Jenna Blackburn, Isabella Vanpelt, Nellie, Sonia and Wren Watson, one sister; Loretta Schlicker, one brother; Arthur Cathcart Jr., his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Jim and Lorraine Peplinski, Marlene Peplinski, Ken and Sandy Peplinski and several nieces, nephews and close cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson; Sgt. 1st Class Michael A. Cathcart, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Lloyd and Nellie Peplinski. The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Mary the Assumption 607 E. South Union St. Bay City, MI 48706). The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Patrick M. Jankowiak followed by Military Honors. Private interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday to receive family and friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Cathcart will be taken to the church on Tuesday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
