Mr. Edward H. Samolewski, of Bay City, passed away Thursday morning, September 5, 2013 at the Bay Shores Rehabilitation and Senior Center, age 89. The son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Hadynski) Samolewski, he was born May 26, 1924 in Bay City. Edward served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the D.A.V. Post #9 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Michigan Chapter #514. Edward retired from Dow Chemical - Midland Division after 35 years of service. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. He was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren. On September 5, 1949 Edward married the former Mae E. Pierson and they have shared 64 loving years together. She survives his passing along with their four children, Sandra Morrisette, Kevin (Lori) Samolewski, Patrick (Nancy) Samolewski and Daniel Samolewski and his fiancé, Maria Olenick, all of Bay City; six grandchildren, Christie (Sean), Kayla, Lauren, Scott, Ryan and Alex; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Avery and Logan; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Samolewski and Margie Pierson; his dear friends, Floyd and Lucille Dryzga; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edward was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Nellie Pierson; his son-in-law, Bill Morrisette; his brother, Sylvester Samolewski; his sister, Alice Lokatys; two brothers-in-law, Charles Pierson and Clarence Pierson; and a sister-in-law, Ellen (Bob) Anderson. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Bay Shores Rehabilitation and Senior Center and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care of Edward. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson and Sister Virginia Scally, SNDdeN will officiate over the funeral rites with the Rite of Committal following at Floral Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Samolewski will lie instate at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
